My approach
Coming to therapy is a significant step, and it's natural to want some sense of what it might be like before getting in touch. Below is a little about how I work.
How I work
I work integratively, drawing on different approaches depending on what you bring and what seems most useful. What stays constant is the quality of the relationship between us. I believe real change happens within a relationship where you feel genuinely heard and free to be honest about what is going on — including the parts that feel difficult to say out loud.
My style is warm but thoughtful. I won't rush you, and I won't tell you what to do. I will listen closely, reflect back what I'm hearing, and gently offer perspectives that might open things up.
The approaches I draw from
My foundation is in psychodynamic and person-centred therapy, which means I'm interested in your whole story — how you came to be who you are, and how earlier experiences may still be shaping you now. Alongside this, I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) when more structured work on thoughts and behaviours would be helpful, and on Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) when self-criticism or shame is part of the picture. I have also trained in working with trauma.
What sessions look like
Sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, at the same time each week. This consistency matters — it allows the work to deepen and gives you a reliable space to come back to. Some clients work with me for a few months on something specific; others stay for longer, more open-ended exploration. There is no expectation to commit to a fixed number of sessions at the outset.
I offer sessions in person from my consulting room in Tunbridge Wells, and online via a secure video platform.
What you can expect from me
You can expect me to be reliable, present, and genuinely interested in you. I will hold what you share with care and in confidence. Therapy isn't always comfortable, but it should always feel like a space that is on your side.
If any of this resonates, I'd be glad to hear from you.
